Map and Estimates of Oil Spilled in the Gulf of Mexico

This animation shows the progression of the oil spill from the initial accident aboard the Deepwater Horizon on the 22nd to today. It is updated everyday, and it also marks the oil’s landfall and contamination progress. So far this disaster is likely 10 times worse than the Exxon Valdez and shows no signs of stopping until August. A wise man once told me “Do it right, do it light. Do it wrong, do it long.” Well, BP is definitely doing it long.

Oh, and over 30% of the gulf is now closed to fishing. As in: “30% of the gulf is now too toxic to eat from.” This should infuriate you. I know I am.
